Some real treats have surfaced over the past few days.

Machinefabriek has released a collection of his early works (2001 – 2004), which don’t sound much like Machinefabriek at all but do sound very good indeed. Available as a free download from his website. Reminiscent of Four Tet or Caribou in places, Aphex Twin in others.

This one is a little bit special. Autechre don’t do too many mixes, but have done one for Fact in the lead up to the release of their new album Oversteps. Self-proclaimed as not being followers of new music, this is a timeless mix of hip-hop and electro; the majority is a far cry from their familiar mechanical futurism, but you can hear the influence along the way. A brilliant wee mix and a reminder of why I used to listen to so much of the boom-bap. Get it get it.
